ion Ventures receives planning consent for 29MW solar farm in Northern Ireland
18 October 2024 – London
ion Ventures Ltd (ion Ventures), an international energy transition platform focused on developing, building, owning and operating renewable energy and storage assets, has received planning consent to build a 29MW solar farm in Liminary Road, one kilometre south east of Ballymena. Consent was granted by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council this this week and is ion Ventures’ first solar farm to obtain planning consent in Northern Ireland where it is developing multiple opportunities.
The development, which received support from regional zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus, demonstrates the growing appetite for further low carbon investment in the region. The site, when constructed, will provide enough clean power for thousands of homes, whilst saving significant carbon emissions over its lifetime.
ion Ventures Director, Dan Taylor, said: “Bringing clean energy into the region is one of our top priorities and this scheme will directly contribute to Northern Ireland’s ongoing commitment to net zero. During the development of the scheme we have diligently engaged with the local community and businesses in the area to ensure that we balance their needs with the region’s renewable energy targets, but also to demonstrate the value this can offer, both in terms of direct economic impact and improvement in bio diversity in the Liminary Road area.”
